Types of Baby Prams/Strollers

There are different types of baby prams available each of which satisfies a particular set of needs. So before buying a pram, it is better to choose the type which suits your need. If you are confused with the different types, then better opt for generic combo baby strollers which usually includes basic features of all. But better to choose a specific stroller if you are biased towards particular requirement. Since the types are not exclusive, some type of prams may include features of other types too.
Here is a collection of baby prams along with its ability to satisfy a particular need.
- Standard Baby prams: These are the generic purpose strollers with many of the features that suit the people who stay in city. These prams are durable with tough frame. Usually they have fully reclining seats which means you can adjust it to suit the baby i.e. flat for infants, inclined for toddlers. They are also easy to push around and steer smoothly on the surfaces like sidewalks.
- Umbrella Baby prams: A light-weight stroller that usually features upside-down J shaped handles similar to the handle of the umbrella. This type is good for the parents who travel often as the pram can be easily folded. It also occupies less space which gives an advantage of easy ride through the crowd or market place and also fits into the vehicle nicely as it becomes more compact when folded. Though most of the umbrella baby prams are inexpensive, it might become costly when they are included with additional features.
- Lightweight Baby prams: This is more a category than a type. Most of the other types like umbrella baby pram can also be light-weight. These prams are usually come with inclined seats and hence suitable for toddlers than infants. If you are planning to take your baby in pram after a year then this is the best bet. Since light-weight baby prams are inexpensive, many parents find them to be an excellent choice to have it as an additional pram.
- Jogging Baby prams: A jogging baby pram is ideal for those whose used to jog and want to take the baby along with them. These are the prams with light frames(frames made of plastic or light material) and air-filled tires. The tires are designed to give a very smooth ride even on the bumpy area. They usually come with 5-point adjustable safety harness to keep the baby firmly in its position. The wrist strap on a jogging baby pram ensures your child’s safety by preventing the pram from getting away from you accidentally while you are jogging.
- Bike Trailers: A bike trailer is ideal for those who want to take their baby along while they are bicycling. These prams come with extra care to cover completely while riding. Bike trailers carry Good harness along with the good tires as these are the most important feature among all.
- Travel Systems: These baby prams have a compatible infant car seat along and toddler seat in one system. Very useful for traveling with new born baby. Once the baby matures to toddler, the infant seat can be replaced with that of toddler.
- All-Terrain Baby prams: These prams are specially designed to fit in all the surfaces. They also have a special locking mechanism to keep the wheel straight always which is very useful on beach areas. Though they are suitable to ride on all the places like shopping mall, sidewalks, beach etc, they might be little heavier compared to general baby prams.
- Combo or multi-function Baby prams: These are ideal for parents who have different needs in different time. Most of these prams include many versatile features like detachable base seat with toddler seat, adjustable handles, adjustable hoods etc. They usually have number of accessories by default.
- Non-single Baby prams: Though most parents prefer single baby prams, some may be in need of non-single baby prams. For parents of twins or those with toddler and a new born baby. double prams are suitable. Similarly triple and quadra baby prams are also available. Even non-single baby prams come with different options like light-weight, umbrella and jogging style. The main disadvantage with these prams is fitting it in the vehicle especially if your vehicle has little room for pram.
